Draupadi was not born from any mother's womb. In the last book of the Mahabharata, Indra tells who she really was.
Draupadi in Heaven.
There, Yudhishthira saw Draupadi, shining like the sun.
Then Indra said: she is Shri. For your sake, she came among humans as Draupadi.
Shri, that is, Lakshmi. That is why, at King Drupada's fire ritual, she rose from the middle of the altar.
But why did Lakshmi become the wife of five brothers? Vyasa told this secret to King Drupada.
In the Ganga, Indra saw a weeping woman's tear turn into a golden lotus.
Indra followed her, and on the mountain a young man was playing dice: Lord Shiva.
Indra said in anger: the whole world is in my power. Shiva laughed, and Indra froze like a pillar.
At Shiva's word, Indra opened the mountain, and inside, four earlier Indras were locked away. Shiva sent Indra inside too.
Shiva said: you will all be born on earth as humans. These five Indras became the five Pandavas.
That weeping woman, Shri, was made their wife. She was Draupadi.
In her past life, Draupadi was a sage's daughter. Again and again she asked Shiva: give me a husband.
Shiva said: you asked five times, so in your next life you will have five husbands.
